Availability of Used Phones

Supply and demand will determine what models of used phones are available. A couple of years back, you couldn’t get a Star Tac pocket phone in used condition. They were so popular that even a used phone was fairly expensive. It is best if you do some research and find out what phones you are willing to buy in a used condition. We stress phones that you may want to buy. The company you are asking may not have a specific phone available. So give them options as to what phones you would like. If you are expecting the company to pop up with a solution, it can be done. But it may not be the solution that you thought it would be.

The company wants to sell you a phone. That is what they are in business to do. And if a compromise is made on what is being sold then it is a choice that you have accepted. It is your responsibility to make sure that what you are about to purchase is what you want. By doing your homework and giving the retailer a limited number of options, you can eliminate buyer’s remorse.

The rule of thumb is that the newer the phone is on the market, the lower the possibility of securing that phone in a used and rebuilt form. If you are looking for a phone that has just come on the market within the last 6 months and is very popular, don’t bother putting it down as an option. But if you find that you like an older phone such as the Motorola TeleTac phone or Nokia 239 phone, you have a good chance of getting that phone. They have been on the market for a few years now and there should be plenty of them in a used condition.

Bought a used phone but it doesn’t have a user’s manual? No problem. In most cases, you can contact the manufacturer and ask them to send you a user’s manual. They will normally send them to you for free. You may end up paying for any additional copies requested after the first one has been sent for free.

Something of note to those of you who have used phones lying around and have no idea what to do with them. Donate them to your local emergency service departments. Fire departments and police departments can use them if you can’t. Besides, it will save the community a few tax dollars for every phone that these departments do not have to purchase.
