If you think your privacy
is intact and safe from eavesdropping, you are far from
correct in your assumption. A digital cellular phone isn’t
safe from eavesdropping either. Digital technology is
encrypted to prevent fraudulent cloning and to transmit
voice packets, not to prevent eavesdropping on your
wireless conversations. A law was passed in 1986 stating
that eavesdropping on cell phones is a crime. How much
time do you think the Justice Department will put into
enforcing a law of this kind? Probably very little if
any.
Before you go about
offering sensitive information using a wireless device,
you may want to think about what you are doing. Do you
know who is listening in on your conversation or picking
up the signals you are transmitting from your cell phone?
The chances of this happening to you are very small.
However, all it takes is one time and you have a serious
problem on your hands. It is up to you to decide how high
the risk may be and if you are willing to take that
gamble. If you are reading this paragraph then you can’t
say that you didn’t know.
